Questions
What owners and architects ask first
Basics
Are you insured?
Yes. We carry general liability insurance and workers' compensation through the Wyoming state program. Ask for the certificate and we will send it before you sign. The registration is in the top bar of every page.
When do I get a price?
In writing, after the site visit and the drawings. The bid is itemized and says what is and is not included. We do not give prices by phone, because the roof decides them.
Can you work from my architect's drawings?
Yes, and most jobs start that way. We review the roof details, mark what needs to change for snow and ventilation, and send questions back before we bid.
Will a metal roof be loud in rain or hail?
Not on a solid deck with the right underlayment. We build the roof assembly to quiet it, and we say what we recommend in the bid.
How do you keep snow off the entry?
With snow guards or rails placed where the snow would land, drawn on the plan before the order. You choose which slopes shed and which hold.
Do you handle storm or snow damage?
We inspect, photograph and write an itemized bid for repairs. You decide whether to file with your insurer, and any deductible is yours. We are not public adjusters.
Do I need a permit?
Usually, and your town or county building office decides. We prepare the permit documents and handle the paperwork for work we do.
Can I cancel after I sign?
If you sign at home, you may have three business days to cancel. In many states you can also cancel after your insurer denies a claim. Your contract states the terms.
Materials
How long do copper, zinc and slate last?
Makers commonly quote a century or more for copper, 80 years or more for zinc and 60 to 150 years for slate, depending on pitch, detailing and care. Your bid names the product.
Can I use more than one material on the same roof?
Yes, often with copper valleys and flashings on slate, or a metal roof with copper details. We detail where they meet so they do not harm each other.
Process
Will you meet my architect or builder?
Yes. We join the project early so the roof details agree with the framing and the schedule.
Do you do roofs on log homes?
Yes, with care for settling and for the roof's ventilation. We ask your builder what to expect in the first years.
